NOMINATIONS for the 2003 Journal Sports Awards are continuing to flood in - but if you haven't put your favourites forward yet, jump to it, as the closing date is now just a few days away.

Remember, every nomination counts and will shape the shortlists from which you will be invited to select the winners.

For your local sporting heroes to be considered, you must get your completed nomination form to The Journal offices by noon on Monday, January 5.

Voting will commence the following Thursday, when shortlists are unveiled in Journal Sport.

More than 50 awards will be handed out at a glittering awards ceremony at Salisbury City Hall on Thursday, February 19 which is sponsored by HSBC.

There are opportunities to recognise and reward the success and hard work of all sportsmen and women who have helped put the area on the sporting map as well as those behind the scenes stalwarts whose hard work often goes unrewarded.

And you can encourage the stars of the future by naming your junior sporting heroes.

Many of last year's winners have gone on to even greater success in 2003.

Manager of the year Nick Holmes led Salisbury City to Hillsborough and the first round proper of the FA Cup while last year's sportsman of the year Bill West consolidated his position as one of powerlifting's all-time greats, again winning the world championship and breaking a clutch of world records as did female star Lee Steggles.

Having helped England lift the Rugby World Cup in Australia, Richard Hill is another star name who has to be in the running for an award.

Plenty more local stars have made their mark on the international stage in sports ranging from rugby to athletics and golf to motor bike racing.

Make sure that you include your own name and address on your nomination form.

All those received will be entered into a free draw to win VIP tickets for February's gala Sports Awards ceremony.
