JANUARY, BATH: THE little Rondo Theatre at Larkhall on the outskirts of Bath has a forthcoming programme worthy of many a grander venue, in quality and variety.

Bath Drama, a high-calibre amateur group provides a fun-filled extravaganza based on Robin Hood at the end of January. It includes an on-stage archery contest.

Before that on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 January is an encounter described as Tommy Cooper meets Margot Fonteyn. In Ballet Star Galactica, Iestyn Edwards is prima ballerina Galina Korsakova, who is very big, in all senses of the word, at the Bolshoi. She/he is sent on tour by the Russian government to teach the British riff-raff about her great art.

In more serious vein Sulis Productions present Steve Carley's haunting and intimate play Contacting Laura at the end of January. It is two years since Alec Jackson's marriage ended and he still isn't over it. He returns to his now empty house to discover someone rooting through his belongings. When the identity of the intruder is revealed the mystery deepens.

After the Rondo the company heads off to theatre festivals in Adelaide, Avignon, Montreal and Edinburgh.

For one night only on January 28 the talented musicians of Prior Park College entertain with a programme of vocal and instrumental music.

The picaresque adventures of Don Quixote and his canny sidekick Sancho is suitable for all ages. Barebones

Theatre brings the characters to the Rondo on February 4.

A cult hit of this year's Edinburgh Fringe follows the next day. It's Alright for Some presents The Trap and Bad Play.
