Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is looking for competitive volunteers who want to make their neighbourhood the most energy efficient in Swindon.

The Trust is hoping to secure at least one Energy Action Volunteer in each council ward in the borough.

Those volunteers will then co-ordinate their area's performance in the Trust's Energy Efficient Community Competition.

With a prize of £4,000 to spend on a local community project, or £1,000 in a category for local groups and clubs wishing to enter, the competition involves communities doing their bit for the environment.

Points are scored by actions as diverse as organising awareness meetings and fitting low energy lightbulbs.

Project co-ordinator Ruth Baker said: "We already have some volunteers but we want as many as possible.

"Being more energy efficient in the home is an easy way to save money, keep our homes warm and healthy, and protect the planet for wildlife and for our children."
