The RSPCA is hoping that call-outs to its emergency service will have dropped during this year's festive season.
Last year the society received more than 39,000 calls during the Christmas fortnight, 761 of them concerning abandoned animals and 173 relating to unwanted pets, underlining its plea that animals should not be given as Christmas presents.
