ROMANTIC Kevin Hannam proposed to his girlfriend Teresa Connelly hours after she gave birth to their first child, Thomas.
Mr Hannam, 40, had secretly bought a diamond solitaire ring and planned to propose sometime over Christmas but decided to pop the question after their son was born on Christmas Day at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
He said: "I bought Teresa a diamond ring for Christmas but she didn't know about it. I had the ring in my pocket the whole time we were in hospital. A couple of hours after Tommy was born and when things had calmed down I proposed to Teresa.
"I got down on one knee and asked her if she would marry me."
A delighted Miss Connelly, 36, accepted and the couple, who live in Jubilee Road, Devizes, plan to marry in about two years time.
Archie and Lara Read of Chittoe had to curtail their Christmas Day lunch when Lara went into labour.
And at 8.45pm Mrs Read gave birth to 7lbs 8oz Rosie, the couple's second child, by Caesarean section at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
Mrs Read, 34, and Rosie transferred to Devizes Maternity Unit for post natal care on Monday.
