The attempts of the parish council and Wiltshire County Council to find a solution to the traffic problems of Wilcot Road (Gazette & Herald, December 18) are becoming nothing short of a farce.
It doesn't need green road surfaces as few people pay attention to whatever the road is being painted in nowadays. There is a public footpath running parallel to Wilcot Road that could be used if upgraded. That, in conjunction with speed calming
measures could suffice. A footpath at the far end of the road is another
logical step.
Recently the police conducted a speed survey which neatly concluded that 85 per cent of traffic was
travelling at below 30 mph.
I live at the bottom of Wilcot Road and I have raised my concerns about the levels of speeding to the police on numerous occasions.
Our stretch of the road is ironically where they had not set up their
survey equipment.
It seems to me that there is a great deal of passing the buck going on. Nobody wants to make a decision and nobody wants to take any action. Will this particular pantomime run well into 2004?
I would also like to add that these are my own personal views and may not be those of the Wilcot Road
Residents' Group.
