BEN Highmore justified his manager's faith in him on Boxing Day as he scored one goal and made another to end Corsham Town's eight match unbeaten run in a match that was brought to a halt for 15 minutes due to a serious injury.

Matt Hobbs had only come on for Corsham at half-time in place of the injured Jack Cullis when he went down after a challenge with Danny Jones.

After 15 minutes of treatment he was stretchered off and taken to hospital by ambulance. It was revealed later he has damaged his ankle ligaments and will be out for a month.

The incident marred an entertaining and fiercely fought local derby in which Highmore stole the show.

He had scored after coming on as substitute in the 1-1 draw with Larkhall the previous week prompting manager Kelvin Highmore to leave last season's top scorer on the bench and partner Highmore and Matt Pratley up front.

The decision paid dividends as Highmore set up Robbie Lardner to score the first and then sealed the victory himself with a cool second half finish.

Corsham Town went into the game as favourites having picked up 20 points from the last eight games but the hunger and desire they had shown during this run was missing as Calne cruised to a surprisingly comfortable victory.

The visitors cause was not helped by the late withdrawal of midfielder Nigel Curtis because of a hamstring injury and the absence of Alan Griffin up front due to work commitments.

Manager Colin Bush must be worried about the effect the absence of these two key players seemed to have on his side as Calne dominated the proceedings from start to finish.
