THE closing date for Swindon's sporting citizen awards is approaching fast.
Nominations are being sought by Swindon Council for people who have made an extraordinary contribution to sport in the town.
Mayor Derek Benfield has urged Swindonians to come forward before Thursday with the names of those they think should be recognised.
He said: "Over the past two mayoral years we have seen many deserving people receive their Citizen awards.
"I hope this will inspire others to nominate someone they know who is deserving of the next Citizen award."
Last year's winner, Harry Scott, 62, of Cherbury Walk, Walcot, was the head coach of Walcot Boxing Club for 15 years and had been involved with it for 25 years.
Information on how to make a nomination is available from mayor's secretary Carole Dreamer at the Civic Offices in Euclid Street or via email at mayor@swindon.gov.uk.
The awards are due to be presented at the full council meeting on January 15.
