WOOTTON Bassett continued their policy of fielding youngsters and were on the wrong end of a 41-0 Southern Counties South defeat by Tadley.

Just four of the visitors' starting line-up were over 25 and, despite the disappointing scoreline, they came away with several positives.

The half-time score was 17-0 which flattered the home side.

Tadley's attacks smashed on the rocks of the Bassett defence and a couple of fortunate bounces from speculative kicks ahead were the difference between the sides.

Whenever Bassett got possession they looked dangerous and were unlucky not to score on several occasions.

But Tadley's fly-half pegged Bassett back in their own half with astute kicking and he controlled the game, scoring three tries, a penalty and all the conversions.

THERE was precious little league action for other local sides on Saturday.

Chippenham's clash at High Wycombe was postponed, while Minety received a home walkover in Dorset & Wilts One when opponents Blandford failed to show for their encounter.

Minety's second string also saw their clash against Hungerford called off.

FORMER Wootton Bassett youngster Karl Brant and fellow Dorset & Wilts player Peter Murchie helped South West to victory in the 18-Group Clubs Divisional Festival at Wolvehampton.

Murchie captained the side and Chippenham's Nick Westaway was also involved as South West beat defending champions Midlands 21-13.
