BLUE and white balloons will be sailing into Swindon's sky next week when the Hilton Hotel holds a fundraising event.
Proceeds from the balloon race will benefit 15 charities including Brimble Hill, a Swindon school for children with special needs.
Staff sold tickets for each balloon and the owner of the one that flies the furthest can win its owner a flight in a hot air balloon. Each balloon has a tag written in three different languages English, French and German, so people in Europe will be able to understand the instructions in case any of the balloons reach foreign shores.
The person who finds and reports one of the balloons will also win a prize. Around 350 balloons will be set free at 2pm from the hotel grounds, which is just off junction 16 of the M4.
One of organisers, Jane Savage, said: "So far we have raised £2,400 but we have a few more tickets to sell.
"The balloons are in the Hilton's colours. It would be nice if one went abroad. Personally I hope one of them reaches Australia but realistically France might be the furthest one goes."
