THE FIRST phase of an upgrade at the Meadowcroft recreation area in Stratton has been completed.
Stratton St Margaret Parish Council has set aside £20,000 for new play equipment at the site off Addison Crescent.
The first piece of equipment to be installed is a £7,500 roundabout specially designed for disabled children.
The roundabout the first of its kind in Swindon is adapted so wheelchairs can be kept secure.
The rest of the money will be spent on a multi-activity climbing frame.
Parish clerk Bob Blake said: "We already have a slide, see-saw and some swings, but we need more equipment there.
"The new climbing frame has lots of activities, such as a tunnel, a fireman's pole, a slide and a play steering wheel.
"It will replace an older piece of equipment which had to be removed because of its age."
The climbing frame is due to be installed in the next two months.
