AFTER reading in the Evening Advertiser how Swindon Council is struggling to make ends meet, I felt sure that some of your readers would be interested to hear about the Home Zone.

This scheme is designed amongst other things to offer people a better place to live and work.

The area designated in Swindon being houses both sides of Broad Street between Ponting and Gladstone streets.

If the scheme gets the approval of the residents they have been told that they would have to use their backways for at least six months while the street and pavement are ripped up and relaid.

The complete scheme would take about three years. To pay for the scheme the EU would put up £500,000 and Swindon Council would top it up with £350,000.

One of the ideas in the project would be to slow down traffic in the area to 10 miles an hour.
