Residents in Malmesbury have given overwhelming support for the introduction of dropped kerbs at Reeds Farm Malmesbury. Of the 175 people who responded to a survey conducted in November by county councillor John Thomson, only five objected.
The plan would see five dropped kerbs installed along Webbs Way, the main road on the estate, at the cost of an estimated £350 per kerb.
Wheelchair users and parents with buggies complained of difficulties getting around the estate and wanted kerbs lowered at junctions to make it easier to get from pavement to road.
Mr Thomson said he would listen to the fears raised in the survey but added the resounding vote in support meant he would now move to secure funding in the next couple of months.
He said: "Concerns were mentioned about positioning and the use of tactile surfaces and suggestions for some dropped kerbs in other places. Once the funding is in place I will make sure all issues of concern are addressed in detail and will consult further before implementation of the scheme."
