AFC STRATTON got the new year off to a good start with a comfortable 3-0 win over visitors Devizes Town Reserves, all three goals coming in the second half.

Stratton had the better of the first 45 minutes but failed to find the net despite twice hitting the woodwork.

After the interval Gerry Wright finally broke the deadlock, Rick Casey scored a second and Lee Marshall completed the tally.

In the derby clash at Cricklade the home side were beaten 6-2 by Purton Reserves in a lively clash which saw Cricklade's Ally Ross and Matt Charlton sent off after a mass brawl midway through the second half.

Sam Collier gave Purton the lead with a 25-yard free kick 10 minutes into the game and Simon Pugh added a second after a solo run midway through the half.

Martin Swaddon then pulled a goal back with a header before the break and Matt Charlton equalised soon after the restart.

Matthew Dale regained the initiative for Purton and with the game evenly balanced Cricklade found themselves down to nine men following the departure of Ross and Charlton.

Simon Pugh then struck twice to complete his hat-trick and Mitchell Wyatt, making his debut, completed the scoring.

Chiseldon Castrol found themselves on the end of an eight-goal thrashing by visitors Westbury United, who scored four in each half. Paul Beavers hit a hat-trick, Stuart Barber (2), Paul Smith, Jimmy Bradley and Mark Lanfear also netting.

Marlborough Town halted a long run of defeats when they beat Melksham Reserves 4-2 thanks to a Neil Robinson treble, and a goal from Justin Guineirie. Tim Eatough and Neil Grant replied.

Malmesbury Vics clambered off the foot of the table after their 2-1 home win over Aldbourne.

A first-half penalty from Dave Edwards had given the Vics the lead Aldbourne fighting back to level the scores. However with just five minutes remaining Jake Fisher scored the winner.

Trowbridge Town started the new year with a comprehensive 8-0 win over visitors Pewsey Vale Reserves.

Biddestone and Bradford Town drew 2-2 Biddestone taking a two-goal lead through Nick Fielding and John O'Meara. In a rousing second half from the visitors, prolific Tom Pang pulled a goal back and Adam Smith equalised five minutes from time.

Shrewton Reserves built up a three-goal lead at Corsham Town Reserves, with strikes from Jamie Read, Alan Maggs and Daniel Weston but the home side side staged a second-half rally to level the scores through Darren Andrews,James Weston and Rob Humphries.

AFC Stratton Reserves made it a good day for the club by running out 7-0 winners over Purton A, Liam Sutton, Scott Rouse and Ian Fowkes scoring a brace each and Lee Smith adding a seventh.

Two goals from Pete Temple and one from 15-year-old Ricky Summers helped Calne to a 3-2 win over Cricklade Town Reserves, and in a cracking match at Down Ampney the home side ran out 4-3 winners over Sherston thanks to a late strike by Rob Murdoch. Earlier Nigel Packer, with a 30-yarder, a free-kick by Paul Baverstock and a goal from 16-year-old Craig Dixon had levelled the scores at three goals each.

Wootton Bassett United kept in the title race with a 2-1 win over Westside, Rick Hewittson scoring with a volley and Ian Curtis and Bryn Keech netting for Bassett.
