PEWSEY put their league troubles to one side as they comfortably beat Bassett.
Although the home side's opener was cancelled out just after half-time Pewsey produced a superb team display and netted three more times in the second half.
Vale manager Steve Wootton said: "We played well and if we had played half as well on Saturday we might have got something out of that game. We changed it round a bit up front and played Matty Messenger in behind Craig Wall and Barry Flippance and it worked well.
"Bassett are in our league and we beat them nicely. But I have to admit I would have preferred to have got three points against them than a win in the cup.
"We played well but we now just need to be a bit more consistent."
Pewsey could have taken the lead on eight minutes when a free-kick by Andy Brien found Matty Messenger who just missed his header. Bassett's Steve Yeardley shot wide and Vale's Craig Wall rattled the bar.
The deadlock was broken in the 39th minute when Wall was upended in the box and Brien scored from the spot.
Vale were caught napping when Bassett levelled on 46 minutes through Neil Bridges.
The home side raised their game again and regained the lead when Barry Flippance took a Matty Messenger pass and shot home from 25 yards.
The third Pewsey goal arrived in the 84th minute when a Brien free-kick fell to Matty Messenger who slotted in.
Wall then capped his good individual performance with a goal in the 90 minute after springing the Bassett offside trap.
The Vale win was slightly tainted though with the sending off of Richard Pearson for a high tackle on John Magini in injury time.
