A MAN was robbed by two men posing as police officers.
The victim was approached by the men last night as he walked home in an alleyway next to a Chinese takeaway in the Cricklade Road and May Close area of Gorse Hill.
The men, who got out of a dark Vauxhall Omega car, appeared to be wearing police uniform, with dark coloured round-necked jumpers with white numbers on the shoulders.
They asked the man to turn around and searched him, patting him down and removing and going through his wallet and coat.
When they gave back the items they thanked him for his time and wished him a good evening.
After they had left the man searched his wallet and realised £60 had been taken from it.
One man was white, stocky, in his late 20s, 5ft 10in, with short hair with a side parting, a round face and a Swindon accent.
The other was white, the same age, 6ft and of a medium build with dark spiky hair.
At no time did they identify themselves as police officers or provide any paperwork for carrying out the search.
Swindon police are appealing for witnesses and have advised the public that when they are approached by officers they are entitled to ask for a warrant card. If they are subjected to a stop and search they are entitled to a copy of the search record. Anyone with information is asked to call 01793 528111.
