Calne Town Football Club has secured a football pitch for its youth teams to help build an identity among the players. Club chairman Steve Walker asked Calne Town Council if it could use land behind the club pavilion to train three youth teams.
At present several of the club sides are forced to play at Avebury, Hullavington and various schools in Calne because of the lack of pitches. Mr Walker said there were many youngsters in the town who were desperate to play in a central location.
"It will help to foster a sense of identity amongst the teams which is not always possible at present due to our far-flung playing locations," he said.
The council-owned land is behind the main stand at Bremhill View.
The club will use the land as a full-sized football pitch and two mini- pitches for the under-11s, tens and nines.
Mr Walker said the club would maintain the area, mark out the pitches and provide goalposts and nets, as the present goalposts were not suitable for competitive matches.
He said by using the land the players would also have the added advantage of being able to use the club changing room and showers. The club currently has a dozen teams and more than 300 players. The request to use the area for youth football was approved by the town council on Monday.
