CHIPPENHAM Town finally got it right at both ends of the pitch last night, thumping Newport County 4-0 on their own patch in the Dr Martens Cup.
The Bluebirds had not previously kept a clean sheet since Steve White assumed control at the end of November, and a succession of chances had been missed in recent games despite some improved displays.
But everything clicked into place in South Wales after Charlie Griffin swivelled to fire Chippenham ahead after just three minutes with his fourth goal in five games.
Captain Colin Towler doubled the lead on 18 minutes.
The centre half had stayed up following a set piece and stabbed in the second following a goalmouth melee.
Scott Walker made it 3-0 five minutes into the second half with a trademark left-foot thunderbolt against his former club.
Teenager James Constable then completed the rout within the hour with his second goal in three starts following his recent transfer from Cirencester.
Chippenham will now travel to Tiverton in the fourth round, where they were beaten 3-1 on New Year's Day.
n Fairford edged towards the Norman Matthews Floodlit Cup Final following a 2-1 home win over Gloucester United in the first leg of their semi-final clash.
Phil Corcoran put the hosts ahead a minute before the break with his first goal since re-signing for the club.
Ekede Ojukwu equalised for Bobby Gould's men on 58 minutes but Neil Matthews turned to smash in the winner with 20 minutes left.
Fairford were then denied a seemingly blatant penalty as Chris Knowles was upended with the goal at his mercy, leaving the tie finely balanced.
In the other semi-final Bishops Cleeve lost 1-0 at home to Slimbridge.
