FOUR people, three women and a man, are helping police with their inquiries after violence broke out at the New Year's Eve disco at the Corn Exchange in Devizes.
At about 1.15am on New Year's Day a 42-year-old woman was leaving a toilet cubicle when the door was pushed back on her, hitting her in the leg.
A 23-year-old woman who was known to her jumped on her back and bit a small chunk out of her left ear.
About 20 minutes later, a woman was approached at the bar of the basement nightclub by three women, two of whom held her while a third punched and kicked her.
A few minutes after that, the original victim was punched in the face by a man, causing bruising and swelling to her right eye.
Police detained four people who have been released on bail pending
further inquiries. Anyone who witnessed the incidents is asked to contact Pc Neil Rutherford at Devizes police station on (01380) 722141.
A 23-year-old local man is still recovering from being beaten up by three other men outside the kebab shop in Northgate Street on Boxing Day, when he intervened to save a young woman who was being bullied by a group of people.
Elsewhere in the town, a man was beaten up after remonstrating with youths who were about to urinate on his property and another man was punched in the face in an apparently unprovoked attack.
Sgt Andy Peach said: "Most of these incidents are playground disputes but they can do some damage."
