Ref. 11895MAYOR of Devizes, Coun Paula Winchcombe, yesterday officially switched off the town's Christmas illuminations to highlight the need to conserve energy as global warming becomes an increasingly serious problem.
Mrs Winchcombe used the occasion to launch Wiltshire Wildlife Trust's Switch On campaign, encouraging local communities to use their energy more wisely.
Switch On is calling on volunteers to help combat climate change by encouraging friends and neighbours to use less energy at home.
Coun Winchcombe said: "The people of Wiltshire can really do their bit to help protect wildlife and at the same time save money off their fuel bills."
Wiltshire Wildlife Trust can give advice on how to save energy. Telephone Nicola Sandell on (01380) 725670 extension 357.
