DEVIZES Town Council objected to the plan to demolish the Snooker Club in Station Road as it would be the loss of an amenity.
An amenity for the people, especially the young people, of Devizes. Planning officers at Kennet agreed. Nigel Carter of the Devizes Guardians didn't. He persuaded various colleagues and planning consent was granted. At least we know what the Guardians seek to 'guard'. Trees are worth fighting for. Amenities for the young are not. Still, as Mr Ody said, perhaps the young of Devizes should all rush straight along to the Conservative Club. I await the next bit of guardianship with trepidation.
