TWO drivers who risked lives to drink-drive in Wiltshire over Christmas and New Year were facing the consequences of their actions this week.
Both Ranford Henry and Kelly Haynes received lengthy bans at Chippenham Magistrates' Court on Monday after both pleaded guilty to the charge.
Self-employed businessman was more than two times over the drink-drive limit when stopped by police on the A350 at Chippenham.
Just a day into the festive blitz officers pulled over Henry's Vauxhall Cavalier as he headed towards the M4.
Prosecutor Michelle Hewitt said Henry was stopped when officers spotted a defective brake light.
Failing a roadside breath test, he was taken to Melksham police station and provided two specimens of breath.
The lowest reading was 72mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. Malcolm Wieck, defending, said Henry had been at a friend's garage in Bath and believed he would be fine to drive after a couple of drinks, which included a vodka cocktail.
Henry, of Curtis Street, Swindon, was handed a 21-month ban and fined £400.
TEENAGE mother paid the price for assuming two drinks would leave her safe to drive.
Officers patrolling the A350 at Melksham caught 19-year-old Haynes, of Longfield Road, Trowbridge, on December 19 after spotting her driving without the car's headlights on.
After stopping her Ford Escort they smelt alcohol on her breath and asked her to take a roadside breath test.
When taken to the nearby police station, Haynes gave two more specimens of breath with the lowest reading registering 56mg per 100ml of breath one-and-a-half times over the limit.
Defence solicitor Malcolm Wieck said the teenager had drank one glass of wine and a bottle of alcopop, but had not eaten anything all day.
Magistrates banned Haynes from the road for 17 months, fined her £100 and ordered her to pay £43 costs.
