TRAFFIC in a Warminster street was brought to a standstill when an overindulgent Christmas reveller refused to move out of the road.
Richard King was trying to find his way to Warminster train station when he stumbled into the centre of Fore Street and refused to budge.
Police were called to the scene with traffic backed up in both directions.
Magistrates in Chippenham heard on Monday how 38-year-old King caused chaos by refusing to let traffic pass.
Prosecutor Michelle Hewitt said it was obvious to officers that King had been drinking.
"He was asked to give his details and was incoherent and uncooperative with the police," she said.
"The defendant then became abusive to the police shouting loudly and swearing, clenching his fists."
King, representing himself, told magistrates he had drunk too much at a work Christmas bash in the town and could not make his way to the train station.
"I have obviously caused a bit of a nuisance. The police didn't arrest me for nothing," he said.
King received a £75 fine and had to pay £43 costs.
