I AM writing in response to a news article which appeared in the Wiltshire Times on November 21 regarding the closure of Waverley House, Melksham.
In the article, reference was made to a resident of Waverley House who had recently moved to The Wingfield Care Home in Trowbridge. It was further suggested the resident was unhappy and that his sister who visited him at The Wingfield was worried that he should not have had to move.
As a consequence of the article, I was also concerned and took steps to find out what had happened.
The facts are that the move to The Wingfield has gone well and the resident's sister is entirely happy with the care which her brother is receiving.
Staff from Waverley House continue to visit the gentleman and confirm he has settled in a care home which provides appropriate care.
It is important for readers to know that residents who have so far moved from Waverley House have done so only because they are happy with the arrangements and receive the care they require.
This indeed was the undertaking I made and will continue to apply to the plans which residents still at Waverley House are making for their future.
