IN 2003 the number of donors who attended the blood sessions in Melksham was just under 2,000.
I am pleased to say there was a good response from 17-year-olds. Come on Melksham, let's see if we can increase the number of donors in 2004.
New donors are always needed because there is an ever increasing demand for blood from the hospitals.
It is not generally appreciated that only six per cent of the population give blood but everyone expects it to be available if they need it.
To mark their 75 donations, Winston Stonham, Adrian Harrold, Garth Topp, David Evans, Roy Horwood and Richard Meech received crystal plates.
Gold badges marking their 50 donations were received by 12 donors: Brenda Chandler, Sandra Collins, Janet Beaven, Lily Francom, Patricia Hiscocks, Patricia Ensum Christopher Joad, Steven Ward, Michael Olden, Barry Railton, Ian Perrett and David Wildsmith.
Thanks is due to all donors and helpers and to Cooper Avon Tyres Sports and Social Club for the excellent facilities provided at Melksham House, and to all shopkeepers who willingly display posters.
I would like to hear from anyone interested in becoming a blood donor on (01225) 704916.
Mrs J BAINES,
Local Donor Organiser,
Woodrow,
Melksham.
