WOOTTON Bassett can blow the battle to avoid the drop from Southern Counties South wide open this weekend if they can win a crunch Wiltshire derby against Devizes.

Bassett currently prop up the table but, as the season moves into its second half, just four points separate them from tomorrow's opponents and fourth-placed Redingensians.

And victory would close the gap even further, with Graham Stickler's men also having a game in hand over many of their rivals.

Bassett will welcome hooker John Biddy back from injury for the Stoneover Lane clash after time off through injury.

And their recruit from Swindon College Old Boys, Matt McKee, makes his debut after a fine performance in the second string last week.

The team also has a family connection this week with brothers Sam and Duncan Fulling playing at scrum-half and fly-half respectively and Gary Darragh also involved.

Bassett's second team are currently without a game, but the third string are in Dorset and Wilts Three North action and travel to Hungerford.

The squad is bolstered by the return of front row men Taff Lock and Dave Mason who have both been unavailable for most of the season.

Bassett Veterans play on Sunday and host the RAF Veterans.
