A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy bit off more than he could chew after he took a liking to Christmas tree decorations.
Corey Overend, of Studley Rise, Trowbridge, was rushed to hospital on Monday night after two cone-shaped baubles became stuck in his mouth.
Fearing he could choke doctors tried to pull the decorations out but were forced to put him to sleep in a bid to relax his tightly locked jaw.
His mother, Debra Overend, said: "Corey was in the bath and he came out screaming and panicking with two Christmas decorations stuck in his mouth.
"They were about the size of a ping pong ball with a cone on top and I tried to pull them out but they were stuck."
An ambulance rushed the Newtown Primary School pupil to Bath Royal United Hospital shortly after 7pm.
Mother-of-three Mrs Overend said: "When we got to hospital about five or six nurses and doctors surrounded him, having a go at pulling the decorations out but they were still stuck. It was a right picture. We were shouting at him to push, it was almost like Corey was having a baby.
"The doctors had to sedate him so his jaw relaxed and they were able to ease them out."
Corey arrived home Tuesday morning and promised his mum he would not put things in his mouth again.
He said: "I honestly thought I could take them out again."
Mrs Overend said: "When he got back Corey saw a couple of decorations left on the table and asked me to throw them out straight away."
