TOWN council offices in Trowbridge could be on the move in a bid to save money. Clerk Doug Ross has been asked to look into the possibility of switching the offices from Fore Street to County Hall.
Mr Ross said the move could result in economies of scale, with both authorities sharing a reception in addition to other overheads.
One of the main fears over moving will centre on access, with concerns the relocation could be too far from the town centre.
If the move goes ahead the town council offices would be located in County Hall's main building.
Mr Ross said: "We would be nearer to the people we work quite closely with.
"It was agreed that I would go back to the county council and establish in more detail what a possible move could mean for us."
Questions over the future use of the former magistrates' court were also raised at a meeting on Tuesday.
Suggestions for the town museum to be relocated in the building were debated, but councillors decided not to hire a consultant to cost-up the idea until they had firmer information on the building's long-term future.
The Porton Down inquest will be the next big event to be held in the former town hall building, with the date provisionally set for the end of February.
