Three years ago the Wiltshire Times published a story about a Beanacre man campaigning for a village bypass.
At the time Mel Austin, who lives next to the A350, said: "A bypass is the final solution, but are we going to wait until someone is killed again before something is done?"
The answer to that question appears to be Yes.
Brian Johnson, 62, died on December 23 after being involved in an accident on the notoriously dangerous stretch of road.
In 2001 there were three accidents on the road. Mr Austin told the Wiltshire Times that he knew of seven accidents in the previous 15 years, one of them fatal.
Wiltshire County Council said in 2001 that a bypass for the village was under serious consideration.
This week they have warned that bidding for a bypass could take several years, despite one being proposed in the county structure plan.
The fact that everyone knows how dangerous this road is and that very little seems to have been done about it cannot make it any easier for Mr Johnson's family to come to terms with their loss.
We can only hope no-one else has to die before something is done.
