SIMON Danielli admits he is taking on "a huge challenge'' as he prepares to make his first appearance at full-back for Bath against French dangermen Colomiers on Sunday.

Scotland international wing Danielli will don the No 15 shirt for the Parker Pen Challenge Cup second round, first leg in France in an emergency measure made necessary by Bath's horrendous three-quarter line injury problems.

The Edinburgh-born flyer is not the only man being shunted around this weekend, with his Scottish compatriot scrum-half Ross Blake likely to move onto the wing.

But Danielli will be under the most scrutiny, in a position in which he is likely to be put under great pressure by a fired-up home side.

The 24-year-old though, is relishing his chance in a different role.

"I have never played a competitive game at 15 and have been working very hard on both the positional and kicking aspect of the game,'' he said.

"I view it as a huge challenge, but one which I will relish."

With backs Mike Catt, Matt Perry, Iain Balshaw, Mike Tindall, Robbie Fleck, Brendon Daniel, Lee Best, Chris Malone and Spencer Davey all on the injured list and South African winger Wylie Human and youngster Gareth Knox ineligible, head coach John Connolly had little choice but to move Danielli and Blake to unaccustomed roles.

But the Australian still believes his side possess the firepower to trouble their hosts.

"The challenge for us is to go out there and win with a disrupted back line, but of course we believe that we will be able to,'' he said.

"I thought that the centre combination of (Kevin) Maggs and (Alex) Crockett was superb last weekend and we will stick with them. Andrew Higgins played well on the wing, whilst Simon Danielli is getting better all the time.''

"We are prepared for the game, the pack is playing well and the team is playing with confidence, so there is no reason why we can't get a result."

Colomiers have beaten Montferrand and local rivals Toulouse both top sides in France this season.

And Connolly added: "We have seen the tapes of their game against Stade Francais at the weekend and they are a pretty solid side.

"They have a power pack, but also have some very dangerous players in the backs who we will have to contain."

Bath's pack is likely to remain unchanged from the starting eight at Rotherham.

However, prop Matt Stevens has recovered from a shoulder injury sustained during his impressive England debut last month.
