WILTSHIRE Wildlife Trust is looking for people ready to lead their communities into an energy-efficient future. The most successful volunteer will win £4,000 to be spent on a community project.
The trust's Switch ON Swindon competition is open to all.
Spokeswoman Ruth Baker said: "Global climate change is affecting our wildlife. Polar ice caps are melting, coral reefs are disappearing and many UK species may be threatened by more floods, droughts and storms, but it's not too late."
Volunteers taking part in the competition will be asked to encourage their neighbourhoods to take action to prevent the waste of household energy, as this is estimated to account for a quarter of the greenhouse gases produced in the UK.
Measures as simple as insulating lofts and switching off appliances can help to combat the problem.
As well as the £4,000 community prize, there will be a £1,000 prize for the club, group or organisation judged to have made the greatest improvement in energy efficiency.
