A FORMER Secretary of the Cabinet Lord Wilson of Dinton will be talking about his experiences in a lecture at Bath University's Swindon campus.
The free lecture, Reflections of a former Secretary of the Cabinet, is presented in association with the Royal Society of Arts (South West region) on January 23 at 6.15pm, at the Oakfield campus, in Marlowe Avenue, Walcot. Tickets can be reserved on 01793 328700.
Lord Wilson, then Sir Richard Wilson, entered the Civil Service in 1966 with the Board of Trade. He served 12 years in the Department of Energy, where he was responsible for nuclear power policy, the privatisation of Britoil and finance.
During Margaret Thatcher's premiership, he headed the Economic Secretariat in the Cabinet Office. After two years in the Treasury, he was appointed Permanent Secretary of the Department of the Environment. In 1994, he became Permanent Under Secretary of the Home Office.
Four years later, he was made Secretary of the Cabinet and head of the Home Civil Service. He retired in 2002.
