FORMER Swindon Town defender Gareth Davies enjoyed an eventful debut for Corsham on Saturday.
The 30-year-old scored an own goal but atoned with a last-minute equaliser as the Southbank side earned a 1-1 draw in the First Division derby at Westbury.
Davies, who is hoping to improve his match fitness at Corsham in a bid to resurrect his Chippenham Town career, handed the hosts the lead on 75 minutes.
Wayne Wheeler's shot was drifting wide before the Welshman's hip deflected the wayward effort beyond Corsham keeper Craig Chaplin.
But Davies struck at the right end in stoppage time, heading home after a goalmouth scramble in the Westbury box to earn Nobby Bush's team a deserved point.
Corsham had created plenty of chances in the first period, with Alan Griffin, Jamie Harrison and Steve Roddy missing openings and Dave Kilmurray striking the bar from range.
The result elevates Westbury to sixth, while Corsham remain a place and three points ahead in fifth.
Corsham boss Bush said: "The game should have been dead and buried by half-time but we weren't careful enough with our finishing.
"Their goal has taken a wicked deflection off of Gareth's hip, but we've got our just rewards at the end when Gareth managed to knock in a scrappy header.
"I'm delighted we managed to get out of jail and it was the least we deserved from the game to be honest."
In the Premier Division, Devizes failed to build on their 3-0 win over Torrington last weekend, losing 4-2 at Backwell.
The home side went ahead when Richard Hewitt dribbled past a glut of Devizes shirts and fired home on 15 minutes.
Dave Hopkins' men hit back in first-half stoppage time when Nathan Perkins volleyed a spectacular first-time effort beyond the reach of Luke Buckingham.
Ryan King put Backwell ahead again on 65 minutes and Hewitt struck his second to make it 3-1 before a flurry of late goals.
Hewitt completed his hat-trick in the final minute and Dave Lloyd netted a consolation for Devizes within seconds of the restart.
Melksham's match at Bridgwater was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
