RAY BAVERSTOCK'S Swindon Supermarine career ended with a bang of sorts, as the departing boss was sent from his dug-out for the third time this season during the 1-1 draw with Sutton Coldfield.
Baverstock (pictured), was told to leave the bench in the first half after a verbal altercation with one of the referee's assistants.
He said: "It's frustrating, I've given the linesman a bit of stick, but one of Sutton Coldfield's lads have abused him in the last 10 minutes and nothing happened.
"It was a disappointing way to go out because I thought we should have won the game really."
Baverstock quit the hotseat for the second time last week after making a U-turn on his original decision to resign in October.
In hindsight, he admits that he should not have changed his mind last time.
"I'm disappointed to call it a day but I regret coming back to be honest.
"I tried it but it didn't work out I couldn't stretch myself between work and football.
"I just want to have a break from the game now, though if the right job came up I'd consider it in the future."
Baverstock rescued Marine from relegation last season and has turned the club into a force in the Dr Martens Western Division.
He thinks his successor Tommy Saunders can build on all the good work, as long as he does not set his sights too high.
He said: "We've come a long way and I still think a top-eight place is achievable.
"Tom's got the potential to do well.
"The only problem I see here is that he might be overly ambitious and want to progress too quickly within the budget and the timescale.
"But I hope he does well and good luck to him."
