Re: The enquiry about the Old Market in Market Street.
I was born opposite it at No 9 Angelinetta the Butchers in 1926, so I was brought up with that building in sight at all times.
When I was working, I worked at Castles Bakery further down the street, until in 1949 I married the man from No 2 Smiths Electrics.
My grandfather had a butchers shop in it so we both have many memories of the market.
You could get almost everything you needed fresh fish, vegetables, meat and groceries and there were bargains galore.
It was an awful shame to see it pulled down and to have it replaced with plastic. This is called progress or is it?
