CHIPPENHAM 2nd went down to a disappointing 18-10 defeat at Weston Hornets.
Desperate defence kept the Hornets at bay however and, after 10 minutes, a mistake by the hosts' backs allowed Chippenham scrum-half Ryan Surry to pick up and go 60 metres unopposed before passing to Jay Whittaker, who scored under the posts.
Fly-half Dan Reynolds converted to give Chippenham a surprise early lead.
Shortly before half-time, the ball was spread wide to the Hornets left wing, who broke through two tackles to score in the corner.
Chippenham led 7-5 at half-time but the second half was littered with penalty offences from the visitors.
Hornets camped in the Chippenham 22 and, after 15 minutes, visiting hooker Paul Baker was sin-binned for dangerous play.
Hornets took advantage and added a second try to take the lead, only for Reynolds to then level the scores with a drop goal from 30 metres out.
The dominance of the Hornets forwards continued though and they scored a try from a long rolling maul.
A successful penalty kick extended the lead beyond Chippenham's reach.
