Corsham's second string avenged an earlier defeat at the hands of their neighbours as they defeated Chippenham 3rd 12-7 in a friendly encounter abandoned in the final seven minutes.
This was always going to be a close encounter at Lacock Road, and so it proved.
But the game was eventually marred by a back injury sustained by Chippenham's Sean Atkin the player being taken to hospital and later released and the sides will look to arrange a third fixture later in the season.
The home side, fielding former Chippenham coach Pete Beazer, started strongly and for the first quarter of an hour, the visitors found themselves defending their line.
When Chippenham finally managed to advance into the Corsham half, they went close on a number of occasions only to be let down by the final pass.
Corsham it was who opened the scoring with a disputed pushover try from No 8 Paul Frankcom, and they held their slender lead at the break.
Chippenham, fielding Development Squad player Kevin Audis for his debut, made changes during half-time and starting the second half strongly, they eventually got their noses in front with a try from Dave Burrows, converted by the returning Ceri Moss.
Corsham stepped up their efforts and with Chippenham beset by further injuries, began to take control, with skipper Rich Morea going close.
Frankcom then went over for his second try, converted by Steve Tye, to regain the lead but the game was eventually curtailed after Atkin's injury.
