PAUL ROSE has been appointed assistant manager at Hellenic League Malmesbury Victoria.

Rose enjoyed a long career in the non-League game, winning 55 Wiltshire caps while playing for Trowbridge and Chippenham.

His career highlights included an FA Vase semi-final appearance with Trowbridge in 1990 and a Hellenic League Championship medal for Moreton Town where he partnered former Liverpool star Mark Lawrenson in defence.

Rose has also played cricket at Lord's for Goatacre.

He will make his first appearance in the Malmesbury dug-out in the Wiltshire Senior Cup tie with Shrewton on Saturday.

Swindon Supermarine are still looking for an assistant following the arrival of Tommy Saunders as manager at the weekend.

Previous front runner Ian Harris has ruled himself out of the running, after deciding to remain as goalkeeping coach at Bath City.

Wootton Bassett boss Pete Yeardley takes his troops to Abingdon in the Hellenic League tonight and he is hoping for a change of fortune in front of goal.

Despite some improved displays of late, a lack of killer instinct in the final third has seen the Rylands Way outfit pick up just one point from the last 15 available.

A total haul of 18 goals from 24 league games tells its own story as Bassett struggle towards the foot of the Premier Division.

"We are severely lacking in confidence," admitted Yeardley.

"You can't give that to players it comes through winning.

"We're not playing badly, but we're just not scoring.

"I'd love to see us getting a few scrappy goals but it's not happening for us at the moment. Hopefully our luck will change."

Stuart Lamont is on services duty and is Bassett's main absentee.

The rest of the squad is the same as the one that lost 2-1 at home to Pegasus on Saturday, although Yeardley is likely to tinker with his starting line-up.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Fairford travel to Chipping Norton.

Mark Webb names an unchanged squad following the 1-0 win over Pewsey at the weekend.

In the Screwfix Direct First Division, Calne entertain Clevedon United.

James Lye has work commitments and is the key absentee.
