POLICE were called to a Swindon pub after a bar room brawl broke out between feuding families at a wedding.

The fight, at the Moonrak-ers' pub, in Cricklade Road, resulted in an abrupt end to the celebrations on Sunday night.

A witness, who did not want to be named, said that the brawl started on the dance floor between women guests but it spread quickly.

"It was like a bar room brawl," said the witness. "It was unbelievable.

"There was a huge police presence dogs, helicopters and lots of cars."

"At the end of the night there was food and rubbish all over the place."

The fight started just before 11pm and was believed to be between traveller families attending a wedding.

It is understood that the cause was likely to have been a family feud.

There were reports that a man who stepped in and tried to calm the row had part of his ear bitten off.

The ear was said to have been found later in the car park.

The landlord of the pub said he was not prepared to comment but confirmed there had been a scuffle involving traveller families and that the police had been called.

But he claimed that the only damage was a broken window.

Swindon police spokeswoman Alvina Kumar confirmed that police had been called after a disturbance was reported in the function room at the pub.

"Officers attended and were able to quell the situation" she said.

"The function was terminated and the remaining guests were escorted off the premises."

She added that there were no arrests and no reports of any injuries.

The ambulance service also said it was not called out to the incident.
