Shattered contestant Craig North has hit back at comments accusing the show of exploitation.

The sleep-deprivation show is being investigated by media watchdog Ofcom after sparking a number of complaints from viewers who said the TV show was endangering the contestants' health.

The 20-year-old, from Ivy Road, Chippenham said he was more than happy with the way he had been treated.

"These people have not been there and they don't know how we were being treated. I think I can speak for all the contestants when I say we were looked after so well."

Mr North was the third person to be eliminated from the Shattered house a specially built apartment in London's Docklands. Ten contestants had to try and stay awake for a week to win a potential £100,000.

Craig said a doctor was on hand 24 hours a day and they were able to leave at any time. He feels all the contestants were fully aware of what they were getting into.

"We knew what we were putting ourselves in for. We had a support team to answer any questions and we still do.

"We had no problems whatsoever. I have no complaints about it."

A spokesman for Ofcom said: "We have had 11 complaints about the programme and we are looking into it."

The spokesman said he could not go into the details of the complaints until the investigation had drawn conclusions, but said they related to the nature of the programme.

Craig has got the taste for reality TV and is setting his sights on Big Brother five. He said his week of fame from the C4 programme was a brilliant experience and he is keen to get on the most popular reality programme.

"They said I could still apply for it, so I definitely will. I would love to go on Big Brother. I will be able to be myself whereas Shattered isn't about personality it is endurance," he said.

Since leaving the Shattered studio, Mr North has been spotted in the street and asked to sign autographs.

"It's really weird. I don't know why they would want it," he said.

On Saturday afternoon Mr North returned to London to catch up with co-stars Lucy and Salma.

"It was really good as we were all looking forward to seeing each other," he said. Mr North starts training as an airline cabin crew member in February.
