CAMPAIGNERS trying to save Newnton Grove Play Park in Malmesbury breathed a sigh of relief this week as the district council resolved it should remain intact.
The park had been earmarked for development into affordable housing with the open-air pool on Old Alexander Road, which closed last year.
But North Wiltshire District Council has decided the play park should be retained and the pool site, along with the car park across the road, and lock-up garages on Alexander Road should be developed.
Newnton Grove Play Park committee said it was happy the park had been saved but raised concerns that the park was now owned by Westlea Housing Association. It had been owned by the district council.
Committee member Andy Pottinger said: "It should belong to Malmesbury. What if Westlea decides later it wants to get rid of it?"
