BROMHAM Reserves must be wondering if their Spring Cup luck will ever change after suffering a 7-1 defeat at the hands of Semington Magpies in this season's AM Print and Copy-sponsored competition .

Bromham made a second successive final appearance last April, when they lost Tim Storer with a broken leg.

On Saturday they first lost goalkeeper Kelham Shearing after 24 minutes through injury and eight minutes after the interval midfielder Nick Cawley broke his left leg.

Magpies were without 16-goal Jamie McDine but he was never missed, with stand-in striker Kelvin Lockwood doubling Joshua Mills' 18th minute opener. Lockwood and Ben Phillips, made it 4-0 at the interval.

A well-taken 54th minute Richard Dyke goal reduced the deficit, but Lockwood celebrated his promotion from central defence by immediately responding for his hat-trick.

Two strikes in the last three minutes, the first the goal of the tie from Richard Allum, and the second from substitute Stuart Barber gave Magpies 13 goals from the last two games before tomorrow's acid test against Castle Combe Reserves.

Another goalkeeper forced to retire early through injury was Dilton Marsh's Mark Binns but despite a man-of-the-match performance from replacement Neil Hannaford, the newcomers were unable to prevent Castle Combe from progressing 4-1, with all five goals coming in the first half.

Scott Evans and Simon Sharp both hit doubles, with Dave Cooper replying.

Rowde Sports custodian Alex Coombs was also in trouble but for another reason against cup favourites Seend United Reserves.

A debut for Alex Shaftoe led to Coombs becoming an outfield player but a deliberate handling offence just before half-time resulted in his dismissal though Shaftoe brilliantly saved Neil Hall's penalty.

Earlier Simon Scattergood had shaken Seend with a fifth minute opener before Sean Meer's brace led to a recovery.

Chris Bishop, with his 17th goal of the season, and Lee Jackson increased Seend's advantage before 10-man Rowde were rewarded for a battling performance through Royston Aust in a 4-2 Seend victory.
