PEWSEY'S hopes of building on their mid-week win over Wootton Bassett were dashed by a late freak goal at Fairford.
Vale had 75 per cent of the game but their good team performance was by undermined missed chances.
Despite the result manager Steve Wootton said he could not criticise the performance given by his players.
"I was really gutted with the result because all the players did brilliantly," he said.
"We played really well and they could have had a red card when one of their players pushed one of our lads over. Barry's had a couple of chances, their keeper got a foot to one, and at the other end we didn't look like conceding."
Craig Wall, Barry Flippance and Tom Ritchie all had chances to put Vale ahead before half-time. Perwsey also had opportunities after the break but so did Fairford.
The home side who stole all three points when Chris Hughes scored in injury time with a high shot from the right that deceived Vale keeper Lee Wilson.
Wootton said: "In the second half we stuck to our guns because I knew we would create chances. Barry hit the bar and we had two one on ones but with a minute to go their lad has shinned in a high shot for a bizarre goal."
Pewsey were away to Shortwood last night and face Chipping Norton at home on Saturday. Wootton said: "I've told the lads that if carry on the way we have played in the last two games we will win more than we lose for the rest of the season.
Neil Riley is available again after returning from the army while Justin Messenger is looking to step up his return from injury by playing with the reserves this weekend.
