MALMESBURY caused an upset in the Hellenic League Subsidiary Cup preliminary round on Saturday when an Andy Mitchell goal gave them victory over their Premier Division opponents.
Malmesbury were first to threaten when good work by Bevis gave Mitchell an opportunity but his shot was well saved.
Almost immediately good work by Townsend on the left brought another save by the goalkeeper with the rebound falling to Mitchell who shot over.
The Malmesbury back four were looking solid but Bicester broke through in the 43rd minute and it took a brilliant save by Jones, who dominated his box throughout, to send the sides in level at half-time.
The decisive goal came 15 minutes into the second half when a superb throughball from Bevis put Mitchell clear on goal. He kept his composure and lifted the ball over the keeper to put Malmesbury one up.
Bicester pushed forwards but it was Malmesbury who looked more threatening and a fine run out of defence by Wilkins saw Phillamore put in the clear but his cross went straight to the goalkeeper.
Phillamore then had another opportunity but shot wide following good work by Baker in midfield.
Bicester rallied again and it took several good saves by Jones to see Malmesbury home to victory.
