A FREAK goal from Trowbridge keeper Adam Sheppard helped dump Devizes out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night.

Dave Hopkins' side found themselves two goals down against their Wiltshire League opponents inside the first eight minutes.

Trowbridge started at a high tempo. Dave Percival headed wide from a right wing cross in the first minute and then had a shot blocked after jinking into the box.

But the away support did not have long to wait for the opening goal.

Kicking downhill with the swirling wind Sheppard launched a monster kick into the Devizes half which bounced over his stranded opposite number and rolled into the net.

Before Devizes had a chance to recover Trott cut in from the right and drove past a now shell-shocked Hare.

Devizes finally started to get a foothold in the game. Their main threat came from Nathan Perkins' set pieces while Trowbridge were happy to break on the counter attack.

Devizes equalised five minutes before the break when Hopkins headed home a well-delivered Perkins corner.

After the break both sides had chances to score but neither could make them count. Marcus Wallen headed inches over from another Perkins flag kick while Hare redeemed himself with a superb reflex save to push away Ricky Hulbert's header.

Devizes assistant boss Sean Moffatt said: "They caught us cold and started at 100mph and we just didn't adapt quickly enough. It is a big disappointment to go out because it was a cup we could have won."
