HIGHWORTH boss John Fisher might have dubbed the Supplementary Cup a 'waste of time' before his side's first round trip to Harrow Hill on Saturday, but his players were motivated enough to secure a 4-0 victory.
Yet his troops rose to the occasion with two goals in each half to set up a second round tie at home to Almondsbury.
Russ Byrne opened Highworth's account on 24 minutes and Pete Macklin doubled the lead before half-time.
Adam Giles then bagged a brace, scoring at the start and the end of the second period.
Fisher said: "It was a comfortable result against a poor side really. We were two up at the break and Adam Giles' goal right at the start of the second half finished them off."
Fisher has dipped into the transfer market to bolster his options in midfield. Former Supermarine youngster Richard Knox has signed and made his debut at Harrow Hill, while Sean Terry could make the same switch after Fisher put in seven days for the Marine mainstay.
Wootton Bassett suffered their eighth league defeat in their last ten outings after surrendering another lead at home to Pegasus.
Geoff Swatton had put Bassett on course for a much-needed victory but the visitors hit back to triumph 2-1.
Swatton netted on 12 minutes after Stuart Bellinger was upended in the box. Swatton's penalty was saved but he tapped in the rebound after keeper Scott Hodgetts failed to hold onto the ball.
Pegasus got a goal back when Rob Laurie headed in a Laurence Helme corner at the near post eight minutes from half time.
The visitors sealed the win in the 79th minute when Rich Stevens punched a cross into the path of Mike Symonds who struck from the edge of the area.
Shrivenham moved up to fourth in Division One West following the 7-1 demolition of Kidlington. Steve Winchcombe hit a hat-trick for the home side, while Nathan Holt and John Peters helped themselves to two apiece.
Leaders Purton had their home clash with Old Woodstock postponed due to the weather.
