SAINSBURY'S has received planning permission for new signs at its store in Monday Market Street.
The company was told to replace the sign over the front entrance door by a Government planning inspector who said it was obtrusive.
The inspector also turned down Sainsbury's appeal to keep the internal brand wall sign in Sidmouth Street.
Sainsbury's submitted plans for new signs at these locations and despite an objection by Devizes Town Council to the front entrance sign which will be internally illuminated, Kennet District Council's regulatory committee approved the signs at a meeting last Thursday.
Mike Wilmott, senior planning officer at Kennet, told the regulatory committee: "We took the view along with the town council that internally lit signs were unacceptable but at appeal we lost on the big orange signs while we won on the small signs."
