A LIFELINE has been launched for all those who have ever wanted to get rid of an awful Christmas present but don't have the courage to do it.
The Gift Amnesty at Asda in Haydon Wick allows people to dispose of anything from strange socks and unusual jumpers to cheesy CDs with a completely clear conscience, because the unwanted presents are going to a good cause.
Manager Mark Pollard said: "Rather than consign unwanted gifts to the back of the cupboard, we thought it would be a good idea to donate them to a local charity.
"Our customer service team are very discreet and have promised to keep the names of the donors under wraps."
A trolley has been put at the front of the store in the Orbital Shopping Park for the gifts until the end of the month, when they will be distributed to charities in the area.
