A FEW years ago Barry Manilow had a hit entitled One Voice. When I wrote a letter to you a few weeks ago I thought that would be me, One Voice, but no, for the next two weeks there were letters agreeing with me.
We must not leave it at that, we must keep the pressure up, for too long where the future of our town has been concerned the people of Chippenham have failed to stand up and be counted, and allowed the faceless few to hijack what has happened.
As a result Chippenham is
becoming a huge housing estate surrounding a shopping centre of a sort, and most of the people living in the town going elsewhere to shop and work.
Do we really want our town to continue to grow like that? I know I don't like the idea one little bit.
Come on Chippionians, let the powers-that-be be fully aware that we do not agree with the way the proposed future of the town appears to be going. How about if we can get the town council to arrange an open meeting to discuss this very important matter and by people power force a serious rethink?
Come on folks, put pen to paper, write to the town hall, the mayor, the leader of the council, the local paper, stand up and be counted.
I am certain that the town council is on our side in this matter but needs the backing of the town residents to go against the monied people who I believe are more interested in financial gain than the future of our town.
Too often in the past, ideas for the town have been mooted and turned down as being too expensive.
Now is the time to say nothing
ventured, nothing gained and looking forward to the future.
A STICKLAND
