TOWN tackle Phil Parkinson's loan rangers tomorrow with Andy King calling for a unified push to successfully complete the play-off 'job' which started back in August.

Victory against Colchester United tomorrow would strengthen Town's quest for a top six spot and put daylight between themselves and the Layer Road outfit.

King is keen to capitalise on a sense of renewed optimism at the club.

He said: "The fans know there is the chance to achieve something this year.

"The manager, the players and the supporters together, united, have to now go on and try to finish the job."

If Town are to complete their first 'double' of the season tomorrow, they will have to do it without their captain.

Andy Gurney starts a two-match ban but King is not panicking over the loss of his skipper through suspension.

He said: "I can cope with it. I have cover and can move things around.

"David Duke can play in that position or I could move Jerel Ifil. The problem for Andy Gurney is getting back in if the team carries on winning in his absence. Matty Heywood has found that with Alan Reeves having performed well."

While King can switch Ifil to a right-sided role if necessary, tomorrow's game is the last opportunity for Town fans to see 'the beast' in a red shirt.

There is no hiding King's disappointment at having to let the 21-year-old return to Vicarage Road.

He said: "Jerel Ifil has wonderful pace and strength and has been terrific for this football club.

"I believe for a one-on-one defender Jerel is as good as I've seen. I mean that throughout the league. I'm not just talking about Division Two.

"I have great admiration for the boy. I can see why Watford want to keep him.

"We have made an offer and they don't want to sell. It just amazes me that he's not in their team."

As for tomorrow's visitors to the County Ground, King has acknowledged his opposite number's skill in the 'temporary' players market.

He said: "Phil Parkinson has brought a lot of good loan players in including Craig Fagan from Birmingham City and Rowan Vine from Portsmouth.

"We're one point ahead of Colchester and by 4.45pm tomorrow I want that to be four.

"I'm confident of getting to that position if we can maintain the consistent, disciplined performances we've had in recent weeks.

"Discipline within a performance is so important. I think there has been a concerted effort on our part to cut out the silly bookings. I think it's paid dividends because silly bookings suggest frustration on the field.

"We've been playing well which means less frustration and therefore less likelihood of unnecessary bookings."

FORMER Town boss Steve McMahon withdrew his resignation as Blackpool manager last night having earlier looked to be on his way out of Bloomfield Road.

He had been strongly linked with the vacant managerial seat at Oldham Athletic.
